Eucharistic Adoration
“Indeed, this is the will of My Heavenly Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son, and
believes in Him, shall have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day.”
John 6:40
What is Eucharistic Adoration?
It has been the consistent belief of the Catholic Church from the very beginning that the bread
and wine consecrated at Mass truly become the Body and Blood of Christ; and that, furthermore,
as the Catholic Catechism states, this “Eucharistic presence of Christ which begins at the
moment of the consecration…endures as long as the Eucharistic species subsist.” (CC#1377).
In other words, the Eucharistic Christ then continues to be present in our midst beyond the
Eucharistic liturgy when the consecrated host is either reposed in a tabernacle or exposed on the
altar.
During Eucharistic Adoration the Eucharist is placed in the monstrance on the altar for people to
adore our Lord and spend time with Him. At the conclusion of Eucharistic Adoration is
Benediction. The Benediction comes from a Latin phrase meaning “to bless.” This is a service
performed by a priest or deacon and those present receive a blessing from the Blessed Eucharist,
Christ Himself.
“Oh, Come Let Us Adore Him…” Eucharistic Adoration is a gift of Christ Himself. During
Eucharistic Adoration, we are able to be in His presence, be in the presence of the Trinity, the
Father, Son and Holy Spirit. What an awesome experience to be in the presence of Our Creator,
Our Savior, Our King.
“Oh, Come Let Us Adore Him…” To be in His presence is beyond measure. He alone can give
true peace, true love and true joy. Being in His presence allows us to come to know Him
personally. He longs for us to know Him. He longs for us to be with Him. Spend time with
Him, if only for a little while. He longs for your presence. Bring to Him your joys, sorrows,
concerns and thankgivings. Talk to Him or just sit and listen. Listen in the silence; feel His
presence and He will give you graces; graces to love, to live and to be at peace. Bring your
children, your grandchildren. Let them experience His love, His graces. Show them how to find
peace, who to turn to, and teach them that silence in His presence is where you will hear Him.
“Oh, Come Let Us Adore Him…” And how far do we have to travel to be in His presence? How
often can we experience the gift of Eucharistic Adoration? We are so fortunate to have two
churches in our area to adore our Lord:
SS Cyril & Methodius – Holy Hour, 2nd & 4th Mon. evening of the month 7:00pm
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy every Fri Morning at SSC&M at 9:00am
St. Therese –Holy Hour, 1st & 3rd Mon. evening of the month 7:00pm
